The Oman News Agency said Sunday that the Sultanate of Oman will close its land borders for one week, starting Monday, to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
It's the second time the country has closed in under a month, after closing from Dec. 22-29 to limit the spread of the new strain of coronavirus.
It has been reported that the closure comes against the backdrop of a reduced commitment by Omani citizens to adhere to COVID-19 preventative measures.
This measure will take effect from 6pm Monday, and may be extended for longer than week, according to the Oman News Agency, citing a decision from the Coronavirus Emergency Committee in the Gulf state.
The country recorded 526 new cases of coronavirus Sunday.
