Will Jordan return to COVID-19 closures? Hijjawi answers

Thursday, a member of the National Committee for Epidemics Bassam Hijjawi said that the COVID-19 pandemic is “not over yet.”

In an interview with Roya’s Akhbar Al Sabea, Hijjawi said that Jordan is currently at a stage that requires coexistence with the pandemic, in order to start reviving the economy and return to what life was like before.

He expressed his hope that we will reach a safe winter, as Jordan has reached a safe summer.

He pointed out that a rise in coronavirus infections is expected due to the reopening of sectors and life returning to normalcy, stressing that the current epidemiological situation is “reassuring.”

Hijjawi added that at the present time there is no return to closures in Jordan, however, he stressed that citizens need to adhere to the required health and safety measures in order to limit the spread of the virus.

He continued that he does not believe that there will be a fourth wave of COVID-19 in Jordan, pointing that vaccination protects citizens from a new wave of the virus.

Hijjawi also indicated that the Pfizer vaccine is safe for children, calling for administering it to school students aged between 12 and 18.
