The government launched electronic tracking bracelets on Saturday for people subject to home quarantine, in a bid to contain the threat posed by coronavirus.

The bracelet connects to the person’s phone via Bluetooth with GPS enabled to track movement throughout the quarantine period, a source told Roya.

Once the person arrives home, their house location is recorded. The person wearing the bracelet can move from 200 to 300 metres, the source added.

When the quarantine period ends, the authorities will remove the bracelet.

The aim is to move from hotel-based quarantine to home-quarantine through the use of the bracelets, said spokesman for the National Committee for Epidemics Nathir Obaidat.

The bracelets are subject to a trial period.
