Some 346 Jordanians have arrived in the port of Aqaba from Egypt on the dawn of Sunday, June 7, aboard a ferry after they asked to return to the Kingdom due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Aqaba Governor Ghassan Kayed said in a statement that security bodies and medical teams in Aqaba welcomed the passengers at the port before they were bused to hotels in the Dead Sea to spend the quarantine period set for travelers returning home from abroad.

He said that the buses that transported the passengers were sterilized under medical supervision, and will also be disinfected after they arrive at their destination.

Kayed confirmed that the passengers didn't have direct contact with workers at the port and they were transferred according to strict health precautions for their safety.

Director general of the Jordan Maritime Commission, Muhammad Salman, said that today’s arrivals were among the first batch of the plan to return Jordanians who are stranded abroad through the sea crossing.

He reaffirmed that they were received according to standard precautions for preventing the spread of the virus.
