The Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has announced today that Taraweeh prayers during Ramadan will only be performed at homes.

During a press briefing at the National Center for Security and Crisis Management, the Awqaf Minister, Mohammad Al Khalaileh, confirmed that mosques will remain closed during Ramadan.

"We have been performing prayers at homes and we will perform Taraweeh prayers at our homes, not at mosques for a purpose in Islamic law," the Minister said.

He added: "We have to get used to social distancing during Ramadan."

Khalaileh called on Jordanians to abide by the decisions related to praying at home during the holy month.
