For the eighth day in a row, no coronavirus cases were confirmed in the Irbid governorate, the official overseeing the virus in the northern governorates and member of the National Committee for Epidemics, Wael Hayajneh said today.

Hayajneh pointed out that 25 epidemiological investigative teams have started today to conduct COVID-19 tests to people in villages and towns in all the brigades of the governorate.

"250 to 300 samples are expected to be tested, bringing the total number of samples tested in the governorate since the beginning of the crisis to about 5500," Hayajneh stated.

"A group of people who had direct contact with patients was examined and they all tested negative, which prompted the concerned bodies to lift the complete lockdown on a number of residential buildings in the governorate," Hayajneh indicated.

"Irbid is on the way to recovery and the virus is expected to recede significantly during the coming days or weeks."

He stressed that people should abide by the health instructions and defence orders and commit to social distancing.
