Head of Prince Hamzah Hospital Abdulrazzaq Khashman has announced today the first death due to coronavirus.

"The deceased is an 83-year-old woman," Khashman said.

He explained that "before she was infected with the virus, the woman had pre-existing health issues and inflammation due to blood poisoning. She was transferred from a private hospital to Prince Hamzah Hospital."

The Minister of Health, Saad Jaber, announced that 23 new coronavirus cases were confirmed on Friday, March 27, bringing the caseload to 235.

He also confirmed that 16 people were discharged from Prince Hamzah Hospital in Amman, bringing the total number of recovered people to 18.

Earlier in the day, Minister Jaber said that six or seven coronavirus patients need "intensive care".

"These are cases for elderly patients except for a 45-year-old man whose state is moderate. The rest are in good health condition," he stressed.
