MP Huda Al-Atoum revealed on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, that the Ministry of Education wasted tens of millions to print curricula that are officially “canceled”.

Al-Atoum said during a monitoring session held by the House of Representatives that stopping the waste of government money and fighting financial and administrative corruption is what’s needed.
Here are some details and figures revealed during the meeting:

  1. In 2016, tenders were asked to print books worth of 12,600,000 Jordanian Dinars, and these books were canceled.
  2. The content of 40 books were infringed and changed.
  3. In 2017 the printing of books was canceled at a cost of 13,500,000 Jordanian Dinars.
  4. In 2015, tenders were asked to print books worth of 13,200,000 Jordanian dinars – which were canceled in addition to two important points:
    1. Units from Arab and World History were cancelled without reviewing the tender procedures
    2. Extensions were added from the Curriculum Directorate to make changes in the supplements of the books of Islamic education for the fifth, sixth and ninth grades without reference to the scientific editor.
The last unit of the Arab and World History was also deleted while under printing without any new administrative procedures.
  5. A total of 4,960,000 books were destroyed within two years in three main book warehouses in Irbid, Mqablain and Zarqa. Not to mention the warehouses in 44 educational departments and 4,000 public schools around the Kingdom.

Al-Atoum added that after all this waste and financial tampering, the Director was not held accountable but in fact, promoted.
