For more than 1,200 days of war, as fighting devastated Sudan and much of the state ceased to function, the Emergency Response Rooms, a network of Sudanese civilians emerged as a lifeline for millions caught in the world's worst humanitarian crisis.

"Hopefully we win the Nobel [Peace] Prize," says Amal Omar, a coordinator within the group, "even if we don't win, we are still working, nothing will stop us".
