French social media has erupted in response to a proposal by France’s far-right National Rally party to ban and financially penalize the wearing of the Islamic headscarf in public spaces if it comes to power after the 2027 presidential election.
Women across France, including some who do not normally wear the hijab, have posted videos wearing headscarves in solidarity with Muslim women and in protest against the proposal.
