Jordan's Public Security Directorate announced Saturday that nine automatic firearms and GPS devices were found inside a suspicious bag in the southern governorate of Karak.

The media spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate said police received a report about a suspicious bag in the Muhi area of Karak, prompting officers to immediately deploy to the scene and cordon off the area while specialists examined the bag.

Following an inspection, authorities discovered nine automatic firearms and GPS tracking devices inside the bag, which had reportedly been smuggled into Jordan using thermal balloons.

Initial investigations indicated that the bag had been carried by the wind from Jordan's southern border, the spokesperson said.

Authorities seized the weapons and devices, while investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
