Former undisputed world heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson visited the ancient city of Petra on Thursday, touring several key archaeological landmarks within the renowned southern Jordanian heritage site.

Upon his arrival, Tyson was welcomed by Dr. Sami Al-Hasanat, Commissioner of the Archaeological Reserve and Tourism at the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA). Al-Hasanat provided an overview of the historic city's cultural significance, detailing the engineering systems and rock-cut architectural achievements developed by the Nabataeans over two millennia ago.

During his walkthrough, Tyson stopped at several major archaeological points across the reserve, including the Treasury (Al-Khazneh), the city’s most recognizable carved facade.

Inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1985 and designated one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, Petra serves as the cornerstone of Jordan’s tourism sector.

Local authorities highlighted that visits by high-profile international figures draw global attention to the site, reinforcing Jordan’s cultural footprint and supporting broader promotional efforts for regional tourism.
