- White House communications director Steven Cheung jokingly suggested Nicki Minaj could become the next press secretary after interviewing her aboard Air Force One.
- Minaj praised Donald Trump’s economic record, foreign policy and work ethic during the exchange.
- The rapper reiterated her support for Trump at a Michigan rally, pledging to stand by him and urging voters to support Republicans in the November midterm elections.
White House communications director Steven Cheung has suggested rapper Nicki Minaj as a potential candidate for the administration’s vacant press secretary position after sharing a mock interview with the artist aboard Air Force One.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have found the new White House Press Secretary!” Cheung wrote on X on Sunday, October 25, alongside a video of himself questioning Minaj during their flight to Michigan, where she later appeared with Trump at a Republican campaign rally.
The video featured Cheung asking Minaj about the US economy, Trump’s approach to international relations and his work ethic as he campaigns for Republican candidates ahead of the November midterm elections.
Minaj praised Trump’s business experience, arguing that his ability to manage his own finances demonstrated his understanding of economics. She also commended his approach to foreign policy, saying he prioritized American interests in dealings with other countries.
Asked about Trump’s continued campaigning for Republicans, Minaj said the president worked harder than people half his age and described his efforts to help other candidates as a reflection of his character.
Minaj reshared Cheung’s post with an American flag and a smiling face with a sweat emoji. The White House account also responded with an eyes emoji, while Trump adviser Alex Bruesewitz asked her fans, known as the Barbz, what they thought of the idea.
The press secretary position had become vacant following the departure of Katie Zacharia, whose tenure lasted just five days in October.
Minaj’s appearance alongside Trump in Michigan marked another step in her increasingly public alignment with the president and the Republican Party. At the rally in Port Huron, she pledged to continue supporting Trump and urged voters to back Republican candidates in the Nov. 3 midterm elections.
“President Trump, it is an honor to stand with you every single time, and I will continue to support you forever and ever,” Minaj told the crowd.
The rapper has also appeared at administration-linked events, including a January summit promoting Trump Accounts, a government-backed savings initiative for children. During that event, she described herself as the president’s “number one fan.”
Her political positioning marks a shift from earlier criticism of Trump’s immigration policies. In recent months, however, she has become a prominent celebrity supporter of his administration, publicly praising his leadership and echoing Republican positions on several social issues.
