The US Embassy in Saudi Arabia has imposed new travel restrictions on American government employees following recent missile and drone attacks targeting airports in the kingdom.
In a security alert issued Wednesday, the embassy said US government employees must obtain special authorization before using any airport in Saudi Arabia.
The embassy also warned American citizens of the possibility of further attacks targeting airports, airspace closures, flight cancellations, and other disruptions to air travel.
It urged US citizens to exercise “extreme caution” when using Saudi airports and to check flight statuses directly with airlines.
The embassy said US government employees are prohibited from traveling within 20 miles (32 kilometers) of the border with Yemen.
Special authorization is also required for official travel to Jizan, Asir, Najran, Qatif, Yanbu, and Taif.
The measures come amid heightened security concerns following reported missile and drone attacks in Saudi Arabia, with authorities warning of potential disruptions to regional air travel.
