US military forces destroyed an Iranian-affiliated dhow in the Gulf of Oman alleging it was conducting surveillance and targeting operations against US Navy warships, US Central Command (CENTCOM) claimed in a statement.
According to CENTCOM, the action took place on Oct. 6 as part of ongoing regional maritime security operations.
US forces allegedly removed the crew members safely from the dhow before destroying the vessel.
CENTCOM added that efforts to repatriate the crew members are currently ongoing.
In its statement, CENTCOM criticized the activity of Iranian forces in regional waterways, specifically highlighting the actions of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
CENTCOM claimed that over the past seven months, the IRGC has continued to indiscriminately target thousands of civilian mariners transiting regional waters, as well as actively targeting US Navy warships operating in the region.
