Day 230 | IRGC says ship sank after striking mine in Strait of Hormuz
US President Donald Trump announced “major combat operations” against Iran on February 28, launching a massive joint US-‘Israeli’ military campaign targeting military, government and infrastructure sites across the country.
Despite a memorandum of understanding signed by the two countries in June aimed at ending the war, negotiations broke down, and the United States and Iran resumed strikes. The strategic Strait of Hormuz has emerged as the main flashpoint, with tensions over maritime security and shipping threatening regional stability.
Meanwhile, fighting in Yemen between the Iranian-backed Houthi group and Saudi-backed Yemeni forces has intensified in recent weeks. The Houthis have also launched attacks on Saudi Arabia, raising concerns about a further escalation of the conflict across the region.
Iran warns US of more painful response to any new attack
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned that the possibility of a new US attack on Iran remains, saying Tehran is prepared to respond with greater force.
The IRGC spokesperson said US President Donald Trump’s administration may seek to achieve a major accomplishment ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.
He warned that the consequences of any new attack for the United States “will be far more painful,” according to the Iranian official.
Houthis claim to have hit Saudi Typhoon fighter jet over Saada
Yemen’s Houthi forces claimed they struck a Saudi Typhoon fighter jet over Saada province in northwestern Yemen.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the aircraft had taken off from Taif Air Base and was hit by a surface-to-air missile, sustaining a direct strike that left it at risk of crashing.
The claim could not be independently verified, and no immediate response from Saudi authorities was available.
Yemeni army claims 200 Houthis killed, wounded in clashes in Taiz
The Yemeni army said more than 200 Houthi fighters were killed or wounded during fierce battles in the southwestern province of Taiz on Wednesday.
The Taiz Military Axis said fighting continued on the Dhubab front west of Taiz city and the al-Aqrud and al-Shaqab fronts to the south.
Warplanes struck a convoy of Houthi tanks and military vehicles in the Ras al-Najd area of al-Misrakh district. Other strikes targeted Houthi positions near Sofitel Hill, east of Taiz city.
The army reported destroying one military vehicle and an armored convoy, damaging two tanks, and downing a drone.
