US federal authorities have seized Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar’s phone and issued more than a dozen grand jury subpoenas as part of an investigation into the Minnesota lawmaker, according to the Associated Press, citing a person briefed on the probe.
The subpoenas, including those involving some of Omar’s relatives, were issued to a grand jury gathering evidence in Minnesota. The investigation reportedly concerns potential fraud involving Omar’s immigration paperwork.

The probe led federal agents to search Omar’s Washington, D.C., home on Monday, just weeks before the November midterm elections, in which she is seeking reelection.
The full scope of the investigation remains unclear. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin has suggested that authorities are examining potential crimes related to the immigration paperwork of Omar’s family members.
On Tuesday, Washington, DC, US Attorney Jeanine Pirro said in an interview with Fox News that “there are several investigations going on” involving Omar. She added that her office was also examining issues related to the lawmaker’s financial disclosures.
“If there was a crime that was committed, it will be prosecuted,” Pirro said.
The search of Omar’s home, so close to the midterm elections that will determine control of Congress, drew swift condemnation from Democrats, who accused the Trump administration of targeting the lawmaker for political reasons.
Omar described the search in a statement on X as an “attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement.”
“For 10 years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation,” she said. “I will not be silenced.”
The allegations under investigation have not been established as proven wrongdoing, and the full scope of the federal probe remains unclear.
