  • The search was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).
  • The search follows previous signals from the administration regarding potential investigations into immigration paperwork allegations.

US Federal agents executed a search warrant at the home of Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar on Monday morning as part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation, according to AP.

Two sources familiar with the matter said that agents from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) carried out the search at the lawmaker's residence in the Washington, D.C. area under a warrant secured by the Department of Justice.

"This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation," the Justice Department stated, offering no further details on the nature of the investigation.

Omar, 44, represents Minnesota's 5th Congressional District and has served in the US House of Representatives since 2018, she is a former refugee and the first Black Muslim woman elected to Congress. She is also a member of the progressive group of female lawmakers known as "The Squad," and a vocal Trump critic.

Republican critics, including Donald Trump, have long questioned Omar’s background, alleging she committed immigration fraud by marrying her brother. Omar has firmly dismissed the claims as "disgusting lies."

Vice President of the United States, JD Vance told reporters in May that “It certainly seems like something fishy is there, but everybody’s entitled to equal justice under the laws,” adding that, “we’re going to investigate it. We’re going to take a look at it. If we think there’s a crime, we’re going to prosecute that crime.”
