The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) issued an updated advisory reclassifying a maritime security incident near the coast of Oman as a direct attack following confirmation that a commercial tanker was hit by an Uncrewed Aerial Vehicle (UAV).

According to UKMTO Warning Notice 165-26 (Update 001), the strike occurred on Sunday, in the vicinity of the Sohar anchorage off the Omani coastline.

Following confirmation of the drone impact, local authorities responded to the scene and are assisting in the evacuation of the ship's crew.

At the time of the update, UKMTO noted that the full extent of physical damage to the vessel and any potential environmental impact remain unknown while emergency and investigative operations are carried out.

UKMTO has instructed all commercial vessels transiting near the Gulf of Oman and the Strait of Hormuz approaches to exercise extreme caution and report any suspicious maritime activity to monitoring centers while authorities conduct their investigations.
