  • Trump warned Kyiv and European allies of an immediate intel and weapons halt if Ukraine continues deep energy strikes in Russia.
  • High-level warnings from State, Defense, and US military command were dispatched directly to Ukrainian and European leadership.
  • The threat follows Trump's push for an unexpected "energy ceasefire" over concerns regarding global diesel price spikes.
  • European officials warned a suspension would immediately jeopardize Ukraine's ballistic missile defenses and delay Patriot deliveries.

The Trump administration has warned Ukraine and its European allies that the United States could suspend intelligence sharing and block European purchases of American weapons for Kyiv if Ukraine does not halt its deep strikes against Russian energy facilities, two European officials told CNN.

The warnings, issued by the State Department and the Department of War, were dispatched over the weekend to officials in Ukraine and Europe, including direct communications from the US military to Ukrainian commanders.

A separate source familiar with the matter confirmed to CNN that the US threatened to cut intelligence sharing.

The Financial Times was the first to report the threats regarding intelligence sharing and weapons procurement.

CNN reached out to the White House, the Department of Defense, and the State Department for official comment.

The threat comes amid heightened frustration from US President Donald Trump toward Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky over ongoing Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries, CNN previously reported.

Trump has consistently blamed the Russia-Ukraine war for driving up global diesel prices -an issue further compounded by the US conflict with Iran- and has demanded an immediate end to energy infrastructure attacks.

On Sunday, Trump announced that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an "energy ceasefire," a move that a source close to Zelensky described as a surprise. Following the announcement, Zelensky posted on X: "Ukraine supports the ceasefire, and it is important that Russia support it as well. We are awaiting details from the American side."

European officials emphasized that intelligence sharing and weapons acquisitions are vital to Ukraine's defense, with one official describing the US warning as a "sad day" for Kyiv and its allies.

A suspension of intelligence sharing would immediately cripple Ukraine's ability to track Russian ballistic missile launches, target positions, and incoming strike trajectories.

Meanwhile, halting US weapons purchases conducted through the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) mechanism would severely obstruct shipments of Patriot interceptor missiles, which are in critically short supply as Russian drone and missile attacks escalate.

Another European official told CNN that NATO had not yet observed formal changes to the PURL program over the weekend.

The Trump administration previously froze intelligence sharing with Ukraine in March 2025 following a tense Oval Office meeting between Trump and Zelensky, before reinstating it after Ukraine accepted a US-proposed ceasefire during negotiations in Saudi Arabia.

The ultimatum marks a fresh point of friction between Trump and Zelensky, who recently clashed over a US agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin to release Russian diesel onto global markets, a deal a US official previously told CNN was prompted in part by Ukraine's continued refinery attacks.

On Saturday, Trump suggested that Ukraine should seek new leadership and replace Zelensky.
