  • Noose-shaped pins distributed: Otzma Yehudit representative David Bavli distributed the pins to students at a Herzliya high school despite the administration’s prior ban.
  • Party defends move: The far-right party said the pins were meant to promote what it called “deterrence against terrorism” and linked them to the death penalty law for Palestinian prisoners.

David Bavli, a representative of the ‘Israeli’ far-right Otzma Yehudit party, distributed noose-shaped pins to students at Handasaim High School in Herzliya during a political event, despite the school administration informing him beforehand that the pins would not be allowed.

The incident drew attention after Bavli proceeded with the distribution despite the school’s stated objection.

Otzma Yehudit defended the move, saying it was proud to explain to younger generations what it described as the importance of deterrence against terrorism.

The party said, “The terrorist who comes to kill Jews must die,” linking the noose symbol to legislation on the death penalty for Palestinian prisoners passed by the Knesset.

The incident follows an earlier appearance by National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir wearing a similar noose-shaped pin to signal his support for legislation introducing the death penalty for Palestinian prisoners.

The Knesset passed the bill in its second and third readings on the same day, advancing legislation that would allow courts to impose the death penalty in certain cases involving Palestinians convicted of killing ‘Israelis’.
