At least 50 tankers carrying Iranian oil remain stranded near the country’s coast amid the US blockade, while other vessels are waiting outside the Gulf near Sri Lanka, Bloomberg reported, citing United Against Nuclear Iran.

The vessels are carrying mainly crude oil, along with petroleum products and liquefied petroleum gas, according to the organization.

Bloomberg reported that empty tankers are also waiting at anchorages across the Indian and Pacific oceans rather than returning to Iranian ports, amid restrictions linked to the US blockade.

Twenty Iranian-flagged vessels are reportedly positioned off Sri Lanka, while another is off the coast of Oman.

At least 11 loaded tankers are anchored east of Khark Island, a major Iranian oil export terminal, while five others are located south of the island, according to the report.

Little change over two months
United Against Nuclear Iran said the situation has changed little over the past two months, indicating that a significant number of vessels remain unable to complete their intended voyages.

The prolonged disruption comes as the US blockade continues to affect the movement of Iranian oil and other energy products, leaving both loaded and empty vessels waiting offshore.
