US President Donald Trump on Monday blamed Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries for high gas prices, insisting that the Iran war was no longer responsible.

"What's driving up Gasoline is no longer the Strait of Hormuz, because Record Numbers of Barrels are coming out now on an almost daily basis, but the word, 'Refineries,' where Russia's are being blown up by Ukraine," Trump said on his Truth Social network.

Trump, whose Republican Party faces losing control of Congress in next month's US midterm elections, also blamed what he said was the closing of oil refineries in states run by rival Democrats.

The rise in gasoline and diesel prices since the start of the US-‘Israeli’ war on Iran in late February has been a major source of discontent among American voters ahead of the midterm elections scheduled for early November.

Opinion polls suggest that Trump’s Republican Party, which controls both chambers of Congress, could lose its majority in at least the House of Representatives.

This is not the first time Trump has blamed Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil facilities for rising energy prices.

In contrast, the US president has not commented on the recent escalation in Russian attacks on Ukraine, including strikes on infrastructure in Kyiv.
