Ms. Rachel pleads for Gaza’s disabled children

• She condemned the starvation of children with medical conditions and said their suffering should not be treated as a political controversy.
• She cited children evacuated by the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund who recovered after receiving medical care and adequate nutrition.

Children’s entertainer and educator Ms. Rachel has used an emotional social media post to draw attention to the suffering of children with disabilities in Gaza, particularly those facing starvation. 

“I am so angry that we are watching babies be tortured and killed and leaders, celebrities, and people with so much power and wealth say NOTHING,” Rachel Accurso wrote on Monday.

She specifically highlighted children with disabilities, saying that “being cruel to kids with disabilities is one of the worst offenses” and describing the starvation of children with medical conditions as a cruelty she could not comprehend.

Accurso said she had become frustrated with asking people to imagine that children in Gaza were their own children, arguing that Palestinian children should be allowed to live without others needing to make that comparison.

She also pointed to the work of Tareq Hailat and the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF), saying the organisation had evacuated children who were starving because of medical conditions and that the children subsequently recovered and returned to a normal weight.

“This is a choice. This is a choice,” she wrote.

Accurso has previously used her platform to advocate for Palestinian children and support humanitarian efforts in Gaza. Her latest comments placed particular emphasis on children with disabilities and the additional challenges they face during the conflict.

PCRF provides medical and humanitarian assistance to children in Gaza, including treatment for children with complex medical needs.
