Adam Brody breaks silence on Gaza: “Free Palestine”

Actor Adam Brody has publicly expressed support for a free Palestine and said he considers the war in Gaza a “genocide”, marking a more direct statement on the conflict from the star of Netflix’s Nobody Wants This.

Speaking to GQ ahead of the release of the show’s third season, Brody said he had discussed the conflict privately but had not previously spoken much about it publicly.

“Put me down as thinking it's a genocide. Put me down as wanting a free Palestine,” Brody said.

He added that the scale of death and suffering was “awful” and said he hoped a future US administration could change policies that he believes have contributed to the situation in Gaza.

Brody, 46, plays Rabbi Noah Roklov in Nobody Wants This, a romantic comedy centred on an agnostic sex podcaster, played by Kristen Bell, who begins a relationship with a newly single rabbi.

The series, created by Erin Foster, draws partly on Foster’s experience converting to Judaism after meeting her husband. It became a breakout Netflix hit after its 2024 debut and was renewed for a second season within two weeks.

Brody has also spoken about changing attitudes in Hollywood, saying political developments including the Gaza war had exposed beliefs that he described as previously unfamiliar to him and that had left him “disheartened”.

His comments come shortly before the third season of Nobody Wants This is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on Oct. 22.

The actor's remarks have drawn attention in part because he plays a rabbi in the series, which focuses on Jewish identity and relationships while largely avoiding the ‘Israeli’-Palestinian conflict. Foster has previously said the show was not intended to address the conflict directly.

Brody rose to prominence in the 2000s playing Seth Cohen on the television series The O.C. before taking on roles in film and television, including The Kid Detective and Ready or Not. His performance in Nobody Wants This brought him renewed attention and earned him a Critics Choice Award.
