European low-cost airline flights return to Jordan

• The return is expected to support tourism and trade and expand air connectivity.
• The Commission will keep coordinating with international partners, uphold safety and security standards, and try to attract more global airlines.

European airlines are beginning to resume scheduled flights to and from Jordan, with Wizz Air restarting operations on Tuesday and Ryanair set to follow by the end of October, according to the Jordan Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission.

Captain Daifallah Al-Farajat, chairman of the commission’s board of commissioners, said Hungarian carrier Wizz Air will operate its first flight to Queen Alia International Airport on Tuesday, September 22, with two flights per week after several months of suspension.

He said Ryanair will resume its operations in Jordan by the end of October, connecting the Kingdom with four major European destinations and expanding travel options for passengers and tourists.

Al-Farajat said the return of European carriers follows technical efforts and negotiations between the commission and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

He said Jordan was removed from EASA’s conflict-zone information bulletin, following the withdrawal of the agency’s recommendation advising European airlines against flying to Jordan.

Under the updated guidance, airlines are instead required to conduct their own risk assessments before operating flights to the Kingdom.

Al-Farajat said the resumption of European flights is expected to support tourism and commercial activity, adding that the commission will continue working with international partners and airlines to attract more routes to Jordan.
