Iran has launched a website that allows people to report Iranian citizens living abroad who criticize the government or are accused of acting against Iran’s interests.

The platform, called “Alaj,” says it is intended to identify and track people outside Iran who it alleges are working against the country’s national interests or security.

According to information published by the platform, it targets activities it describes as anti-Iranian or separatist, as well as calls for sanctions or military action against Iran.

The platform says information submitted through the website may be used for legal follow-up and could lead to restrictions on the financial or media activities of individuals identified as violating the stated criteria.

It has asked users to submit information through its website and designated accounts on the Bale and Telegram messaging platforms.

Alaj says the identities of those submitting reports and their sources will be kept confidential and encrypted.
