  • Democratic Sen. Mark Warner accused Trump of launching a costly “war of choice” with no clear strategy or exit plan.
  • Warner claimed the war had already cost Americans $100 billion, with the figure rising by $1 million every two minutes.

Democratic Sen. Mark Warner has sharply criticized President Donald Trump over the cost and strategy of the US war on Iran, accusing the administration of launching a war without a clear path to achieving its stated objectives.

In a video message posted on X, Warner said the war had cost Americans $100 billion, with the figure increasing by another $1 million every two minutes.

"The Iran war of choice that Donald Trump started cost Americans $100bn," Warner said. "Every two minutes, it goes up by another $1m."

Warner argued that the financial cost would continue to mount without progress toward the goals Trump outlined for the war.

"If you view this, you know, an hour after I record it, another $30m there, and where are we? Nowhere in terms of any of the goals Trump laid out for this war of choice," he said.

The senator said the situation reflected the consequences of entering a war without adequate preparation or a clear strategy.

"This is what happens when you start a war of choice with no plan, no strategy, no allies, and no way to get out," Warner said.

He concluded his message by urging Americans to oppose the administration's approach, saying: "Stand up, speak up, fight back."
