  • Ruffalo rejects Paramount’s antisemitism claim, calls accusation dishonest.
  • He defends criticism of ‘Israeli’ military ties.

Actor and activist Mark Ruffalo has strongly rejected Thursday claims by entertainment giant Paramount that his opposition to the company’s proposed merger with Warner Bros. Discovery invoked antisemitic tropes.

The public exchange began after Ruffalo reposted a video of former Oracle chief executive Safra Catz discussing surveillance and military technologies provided to the 'Israeli' military following October 2023.

In a statement later posted by Ruffalo on X, he criticized $111 billion mega-merger backed by Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison, calling attention to the technology firm's ties to the ongoing aggression in Gaza and warning against the concentration of media power under corporate figures supporting 'Israeli' military operations.

According to Variety, a spokesperson for Paramount dismissed Ruffalo’s critiques, stating the company was "troubled when antisemitic tropes are invoked in purported service of a business dispute".

Paramount argued that applying terms like "genocide" and "apartheid" to a corporate merger was "a bridge too far".

Responding directly in a statement published on X, Ruffalo called the accusation "appalling and fundamentally dishonest".

"Criticizing the actions of the Israeli prime minister, a military technology contract, or the executives who supply it is not the same as criticizing Jewish people," Ruffalo wrote.

"This critical and necessary dialogue is then dishonestly framed as being anti-Israel. Scrutinizing the Ellisons, including Oracle’s business built on data, surveillance technology, and government contracts... is fair and necessary".

Longstanding history of solidarity with Palestine

Ruffalo’s pushback against Paramount aligns with his consistent record of vocal support for Palestinian human rights and opposition to 'Israeli' policies.

Throughout the war on Gaza, the actor has repeatedly used his global platform to demand an immediate ceasefire, condemn the starvation and destruction inflicted upon civilians, and call for an end to Western military aid to 'Israel'.

Ruffalo was among the earliest Hollywood figures to sign the Artists4Ceasefire petition and has consistently worn the red ceasefire pin at major industry events, including the Academy Awards.

Ruffalo has also actively backed cultural boycotts against 'Israeli' state institutions. He pledged support alongside thousands of international artists to boycott 'Israeli' film festivals and cultural bodies complicit in whitewashing human rights violations against Palestinians.
