'Israeli' spy agency reveals alleged Iranian plot to target senior officials inside 'Israel'

'Israel's' Mossad intelligence agency has claimed that Iran's Ministry of Intelligence attempted to recruit foreign nationals to carry out attacks against senior 'Israeli' officials by infiltrating operatives into the country.

In a statement issued by the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on behalf of Mossad, the agency alleged that Iran relied on "criminal proxy operatives" to recruit individuals capable of entering 'Israel'.

According to Mossad, the recruits were tasked with gathering intelligence on potential targets before carrying out attacks.

The agency said it worked alongside the Shin Bet domestic security service and international partners to disrupt what it described as dozens of Iranian-backed attack plots.

Mossad claimed the operations prevented numerous attacks and enabled criminal investigations and legal proceedings against people accused of involvement.

The statement alleged that Iran's use of proxy operatives repeatedly failed to conceal Tehran's involvement.

"Despite these efforts to conceal Iran's direct involvement, the proxy method has repeatedly proven vulnerable, with operational failures exposing the Iranian handlers behind the attacks," the statement said.

The claims come as 'Israel' says it has experienced a sharp increase in alleged Iranian espionage activity since 2023.

According to CNN, at least 60 'Israelis' have been indicted on accusations of spying for Iran. Prosecutors have alleged that several locations filmed by the suspects were later struck during Iranian missile attacks on 'Israel' amid the ongoing war.
