Iran's Supreme National Security Council secretary vowed retaliation against any attack targeting the country's infrastructure, warning that ‘Israel’ would not be spared.
Mohammad Bagher Zolqadr said in a statement carried by state television: "As we have previously announced, any attack on our infrastructure will be met with a response, and the criminal Zionist regime responsible for these atrocities will not be beyond the reach of our fighters' retaliation."
The exchange of strikes between Washington and Tehran resumed this week for the first time since the memorandum of understanding signed on June 17, which followed the ceasefire announced in April.
Overnight Wednesday into Thursday, the United States launched intensive strikes on Iran, hitting 90 military targets, according to the US military.
However, the Islamic Republic accused Washington of targeting civilian infrastructure in an effort to prevent citizens from participating in the funeral ceremonies of the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was killed on the first day of the US-‘Israeli’ strikes on Iran on February 28.
Tehran said the attacks damaged bridges and a railway line connecting Tehran to Mashhad, the city where Khamenei was laid to rest.
Meanwhile, the office of ‘Israeli’ Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he held talks with US President Donald Trump on Thursday evening, during which Trump briefed him on the "latest developments" related to US operations in the Gulf region.
