The US Department of Justice announced Friday that eight men, aged between 19 and 32, have been formally charged over an alleged plot aimed at assassinating President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and other high-profile figures.

A federal grand jury issued the indictment after authorities said they disrupted the planned attack before it was carried out and arrested all members of the alleged cell.

The suspects face charges including conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists and conspiracy to commit murder on federal property targeting government officials.

According to an FBI investigation, the group had developed a detailed plan that included a list of intended targets, including Trump, Vance, 'Israeli' Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, billionaire Elon Musk, and other US officials and prominent figures.

Investigators said the alleged attackers planned to use explosive-laden drones to strike the northern side of the White House. The attack was designed to create panic and force people to flee through a specific exit, where armed individuals allegedly planned to open fire.

Authorities said the planned attack was linked to a mixed martial arts event held at the White House, which coincided with Trump’s 80th birthday and the 250th anniversary of US independence.

Trump attended the event alongside Republican lawmakers and donors, while Netanyahu was not present.
