  • The investigation began after complaints of verbal abuse and neglect.
  • A court extended the suspect’s detention until June 29.
  • The case comes amid a broader crackdown on daycare abuse in 'Israel'.

A 49-year-old childcare provider from the Har Homa neighborhood was taken into custody on Wednesday on suspicion of systematically abusing and neglecting two toddlers left under her direct care, according to an official statement released by the 'Israel' Police Spokesperson's unit.

Detectives stationed at the Oz police precinct initiated the criminal inquiry immediately after receiving a series of formal complaints.

Law enforcement personnel rapidly gathered preliminary evidence at the facility before detaining the suspect for formal interrogation.

Systematic verbal assault, abandonment

According to detailed evidentiary files submitted to the judiciary, the suspect's behavior violated fundamental safety protocols.

The formal complaints allege that the daycare worker regularly shouted and directed harsh curses at the vulnerable toddlers.

Furthermore, investigators note that she repeatedly and deliberately ignored their crying, leaving their core developmental and immediate physical needs completely unmet for extended periods while she was the sole supervising adult on duty.

During a scheduled arraignment hearing on Thursday, prosecutors successfully requested more time to analyze the evidence. The Magistrate's Court officially extended the suspect's detention until Monday, June 29 to allow investigators to complete the probe.

Judicial crackdown

The 'Israel' arrest is part of a growing trend of law enforcement and judicial authorities aggressively pursuing childcare maltreatment across the country.

This past February, the Lod District Court convicted Shelly Sheinkar, a caregiver at the “Ha’gan Ha’shakuf” kindergarten in Netanya, of multiple severe counts of abuse and assault affecting 12 toddlers aged seven to 18 months.

Prosecution documents outlined nearly 60 individual security camera recordings showing Sheinkar shoving, hitting, slapping, and pulling the hair of distressed infants.

Similarly, in April 2026, the Beersheba District Court handed down heavy prison terms to two daycare workers convicted of serial toddler assault.

Judge Noa Haklai sentenced 34-year-old Shita Amasho to six and a half years in prison, while 25-year-old Uriya Bidush received a 27-month sentence.

In her final sentencing remarks, Judge Haklai issued a stern warning regarding the vulnerability of children during these critical developmental windows, stating:

"The toddlers were harmed during a critical period, and the daycare that was supposed to be a place of safety became a site of danger."
