  • 'Israeli' officials say they were surprised by Donald Trump’s announcement
  • Iranian media denied reports of an approved preliminary understanding with Washington
  • Trump claimed planned US strikes on Iran were cancelled after diplomatic progress

'Israeli' officials said they were surprised by US President Donald Trump’s recent announcement regarding Iran and are waiting for clarification from Tehran before assessing its accuracy.

“We are surprised by Trump’s announcement, we need to see what Iranians publish to determine if it’s accurate,” the officials told i24NEWS.

The comments came after Trump announced that he had cancelled planned military strikes against Iran, citing what he described as progress in high-level discussions with Tehran.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said talks had been brought to the highest levels of Iranian leadership and approved in principle. He also claimed that final details of an agreement had been endorsed by all parties involved.

Trump added that scheduled strikes and bombings planned for the evening had been called off as a result of the reported diplomatic developments.

He further stated that a naval blockade would remain in effect until what he described as a final agreement is completed, adding that the time and location of signing would be announced later.

However, Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency cited a source close to the country’s negotiating team as denying the claim, saying that “no text for a preliminary memorandum of understanding with the United States has been approved.”

An hour before Trump's post, the commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters warned Washington against any further military action.

According to remarks carried by Fars News Agency, the commander said any new US attacks on Iran would receive “a response more severe than before.”

The statements come amid heightened regional tensions and continued exchanges of warnings between Tehran and Washington.
