  • Germany players will fund shuttle buses for 600 fans attending the Ecuador match
  • Transport costs to MetLife Stadium sparked criticism during the World Cup
  • Train fares were reduced after backlash but remain far above normal levels

Players from Germany’s national team, led by captain Joshua Kimmich, will cover shuttle bus costs for 600 supporters traveling to their final World Cup group-stage match against Ecuador in New Jersey.

The initiative comes after criticism over sharply increased transportation prices for fans attending matches during the tournament in the United States.

According to multiple reports, Germany’s players agreed to fund shuttle transport from New York to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford for selected supporters attending the June 25 match. The offer applies to members of Germany’s official fan club, with places allocated by draw if demand exceeds capacity.

Transport pricing has become a growing source of frustration for supporters. Round-trip train fares from central New York to MetLife Stadium, normally around USD 12.90, were initially raised to USD 150 before later being reduced to USD 98 following public criticism. Shuttle bus prices also fell from an initial USD 80 to USD 20.

The issue has drawn wider debate over fan costs at the tournament. Unlike the previous World Cups in Russia and Qatar, where transport between venues and fan areas was included, supporters in the United States have faced separate transportation charges.

Germany begin their World Cup campaign against Curaçao before concluding the group stage against Ecuador.
