US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that a deal under negotiation between the United States and Iran could be finalized within days, with a signing ceremony potentially taking place in Europe as soon as this weekend.

Speaking at the White House, Trump said the documents related to the agreement were in the final stages of preparation and that negotiations were progressing rapidly.

"It should be done pretty quickly," Trump said, adding that Iran wanted the agreement "every bit as much as everybody else wants it."

Trump said a formal signing could take place somewhere in Europe this weekend, although he noted that he would not attend. Vice President JD Vance would represent the United States at the event, he said.

The president did not disclose details of the proposed agreement or identify the European location where the signing might occur.

However, Trump's comments were met with skepticism from Tehran. Iran's semi-official Fars News Agency, citing an informed source close to the country's negotiating team, reported that "no text for a preliminary memorandum of understanding with the United States has been approved."
