  • ‘Israeli’ army says it identified Hezbollah activity in Tyre, southern Lebanon
  • Warns residents and threatens future evacuation orders

The ‘Israeli’ army claimed it has identified what it described as dozens of Hezbollah “militants” operating inside a Christian neighborhood in the southern Lebanese city of Tyre.

In a statement, the army said it had previously issued evacuation warnings for parts of the city last week, following what it described as Hezbollah activity and violations of a ceasefire agreement. It added that the evacuation order did not include the Christian neighborhood.

The army claimed recent surveillance detected Hezbollah-linked activity inside the area, saying it was not the first time the group had operated from civilian neighborhoods, including Christian areas.

Addressing residents, the statement urged members of the Christian community in Tyre to demand the removal of Hezbollah operatives from their surroundings, warning that the group was endangering civilian areas.

The warning raises concerns over a potential new wave of displacement among remaining residents in Tyre, a city that has already seen significant destruction in its outskirts and old neighborhoods due to months of heavy airstrikes.

Escalation amid new round of negotiations

The latest threats come amid a politically charged atmosphere in Washington, where a new round of talks aimed at solidifying a ceasefire is set to take place under the supervision of US President Donald Trump’s administration.

The developments also coincide with recent remarks by Hezbollah official Mahmoud Qamati, who told Agence France-Presse that the group would not accept partial agreements, stressing its rejection of conditions it says are imposed by ‘Israeli’ authorities and aimed at reshaping the security situation in Lebanon.

Qamati said such arrangements would violate Lebanese sovereignty, suggesting that the situation on the ground remains open to further escalation.
