A spokesperson for Jordan's Public Security Directorate (PSD) said a report was received on Monday evening regarding a fight between several individuals in the Ashrafieh area of the capital, Amman.
The spokesperson said that upon the officers’ arrival, one of the individuals involved in the altercation barricaded himself inside his home and opened fire at civilians, injuring three people.
The injured were transferred to hospital, with one reported to be in critical condition.
The suspect also opened fire directly at police officers when they attempted to arrest him, refusing to surrender or lay down his weapon.
Security forces responded to the gunfire and continued their operation until the threat was neutralized.
Authorities later found that the suspect had been wounded and died at the scene.
No police officers or security personnel were injured during the incident, the statement added.
Two firearms, including one automatic weapon, were seized, and an investigation has been launched.
