A viral video from Friday has ignited widespread debate after showing Dutch police officers taking a visibly pregnant woman to the floor during an arrest in the Netherlands.

The footage, which spread rapidly on social media, depicts officers detaining a man as the woman approaches, only for one officer to grab her and force her down.

Her partner then intervenes, leading to further restraint by police, including officers with a dog.

The incident occurred at an asylum seekers’ center on Kampweg in Zeist, near Amsterdam, rather than a hospital as some early reports claimed.

According to Dutch police statements, officers responded to reports of vandalism and threats involving a knife.

The man arrested has been identified online as Wesam Rida Fathi Miqdad (also referred to as Wesam Mekdad), a 30-year-old Palestinian from Gaza.

He was reportedly facing deportation proceedings and had been subject to an entry ban.

Posts attributed to Mekdad claim Dutch authorities viewed him as a danger to public order and sought to deport him to Egypt.

He has also referenced prior imprisonment in Greece, which he described as wrongful, and expressed concerns about his family amid the situation in Gaza.

These accounts have not been fully independently verified.

The woman, reportedly his wife, stated she approached officers to ask if she could stay with him during detention.

Social media reactions have been sharply divided. Many viewers condemned the force used against the pregnant woman as excessive and disproportionate, with the clip fueling accusations of police brutality and insensitivity toward vulnerable individuals.

Following the incident, the woman is reported to have given birth to a baby girl, according to family-connected social media posts.

Dutch authorities, including police, have confirmed they are investigating the use of force in the arrest.
