Spanish actor Javier Bardem said he has faced professional consequences for speaking out in support of Palestine and against the war in Gaza.
In an interview with Variety, Bardem said he was told he had lost potential roles and brand deals due to his views.
He said people would tell him that “They were going to call you about that project, but that’s gone,” adding that some companies chose not to work with him.
Strong stance on Gaza war
Bardem has repeatedly used public appearances to voice his stance. At the Oscars, he declared “No to war, and free Palestine,” while at the Emmys he said he could not work with anyone who “justifies or supports the genocide” in Gaza.

He questioned why speaking out should be controversial, saying he feels a responsibility to use his platform to denounce what he sees as wrongdoing.
While criticizing 'Israel’s' actions in Gaza, Bardem also addressed the October 7 attack in his discussion with Variety, calling it “a horrible crime committed by Hamas” and stressing that it should be clearly condemned.
Industry pressure and continued support
Bardem acknowledged that some in the industry may attempt to sideline outspoken figures but said he continues to receive new opportunities.
“It’s fine. I live in Spain, American studios are not the only place” he said, noting his career is not dependent solely on Hollywood. He added that growing support from others indicates a shift in the broader narrative.
