  • UN chief says attacks in southern Lebanon ‘must stop’.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for an end to attacks in southern Lebanon, expressing concern over the mounting toll on peacekeepers and civilians.

In a post on X, Guterres said he was “saddened” by the death of another Indonesian peacekeeper serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), who succumbed to wounds sustained in March. According to preliminary findings by UNIFIL, the peacekeeper was injured when a shell fired from an 'Israeli' tank struck a UN position in southern Lebanon.

Guterres noted that six UNIFIL peacekeepers have now been killed and several others seriously injured in recent incidents amid ongoing hostilities. “These attacks must stop,” he said.

Separately, Lebanon’s Health Ministry reported that six people were killed and two others wounded in 'Israeli' strikes on southern Lebanon, despite a ceasefire.

According to Lebanon’s National News Agency, the casualties included two people killed in Wadi al-Hujeir, two in Touline, one in Srifa, and one in Yater, where another person was also wounded. An additional person was reported injured in Khirbet Selm.

The incidents underscore the fragile security situation in southern Lebanon, where cross-border tensions and intermittent clashes continue despite international calls for de-escalation.
