US President Donald Trump has suggested a potential rebranding of the Strait of Hormuz, jokingly referring to it as the "Trump Strait" while discussing shifting geopolitical alliances and energy security in the region.

In an interview with Maria Bartiromo on FOX Business, Trump criticized international allies who have allegedly refused to assist the United States in its ongoing standoff with Iran. He specifically noted the impact on Italy, stating that Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s stance has been "negative."

"Anybody that turned us down for helping with this Iran situation, we do not have the same relationship," Trump said, highlighting that Italy remains heavily dependent on oil shipments passing through the strategic waterway.

"Trump Strait"

While discussing the nomenclature of the vital maritime chokepoint, Trump remarked that while it is called the Strait of Hormuz, he had considered a more personal alternative.

"The only thing you can't call it is the Trump Strait. They don't like that idea," he said.

The President also claimed that his administration has already successfully rebranded the Gulf of Mexico within US jurisdiction to the "Gulf of America," asserting that major tech companies have already implemented the change in their mapping software.

Regional Escalations

Trump’s comments come as he touted the success of the US blockade on Iran, claiming the Iranian military has been "devastated" and currently lacks a functional navy or air force. "They have nothing left. They’re going to make a deal," Trump added.

Furthermore, Trump addressed the "Artemis II" success and the ongoing "AI race," asserting that the US remains "way ahead" of China and Russia. He credited the creation of the Space Force as one of his greatest achievements in maintaining US military and technological dominance.

Internal Clashes

Domestically, the US President signaled he would not drop the criminal probe into Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell over the rising costs of the Fed’s building renovations, which Trump alleged could reach $4 billion.

"He's a bad chairman. Really bad chairman," Trump said, indicating he would fire Powell if he did not step down in favor of Kevin Warsh, whom the President hopes will be confirmed as the next chair.

Trump concluded by addressing the 2026 midterms, vowing to "turn around" historical trends by focusing on border security and his "No Tax on Tips" policy.
