  • YouTube removes “Explosive Media” channel amid concerns over AI-driven political propaganda.
  • Analysts warn of rising “slopaganda” targeting global audiences through satire and viral content.

YouTube has banned a channel linked to the group “Explosive Media,” described as aligned with pro-Iranian interests, following the spread of viral AI-generated videos using Lego-style animation to mock global political figures.

The move comes amid growing concern over so-called “slopaganda,” a term used to describe low-cost, AI-generated political content designed to flood social media during sensitive geopolitical moments.

Viral videos target political figures

The now-removed channel gained traction for producing high-quality animated clips using generative AI, often portraying figures such as Donald Trump in satirical and humiliating scenarios.

Some videos also featured depictions of Benjamin Netanyahu alongside Trump reviewing fictional documents labeled “Epstein Files,” while others portrayed US and ‘Israeli’ military forces in exaggerated or defeatist scenes.

The content blended humor, music, and stylized visuals to reach wide audiences, particularly younger users.

Crackdown on foreign influence operations

While the group claimed the ban was due to “violent content,” analysts suggest the decision reflects a broader effort by platforms to curb coordinated influence campaigns.

Researchers say the videos were crafted to tap into existing political divisions in the United States while promoting narratives aligned with Iranian state perspectives.

Some investigations have pointed to possible links between the production quality and institutions associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, although the group has described itself as an independent, student-led initiative.

New challenges in AI content moderation

Experts warn that this new form of propaganda differs from traditional deepfakes.

Instead of aiming for realism, it relies on surreal, entertainment-driven formats that can evade moderation systems while remaining highly shareable.

The use of familiar visual styles, such as toy-like animation, allows such content to bypass scrutiny and appeal to broader audiences.

Content spreads beyond platform control

Despite the ban, the videos continue to circulate widely on platforms such as X and Telegram.

In response, Explosive Media questioned whether its content truly violated platform rules or whether the removal reflects discomfort with politically charged satire.
