  • Three Jordanian anti-narcotics officers were killed during a raid in eastern Amman, as authorities arrested an armed drug suspect.

The Public Security Directorate has mourned the deaths of three officers from its Anti‑Narcotics Department who were killed during a security operation in the eastern part of the capital, authorities said Wednesday.

In a statement, the spokesman for the Public Security Directorate confirmed that a force from the Anti‑Narcotics Department conducted a raid early today targeting a dangerous drug suspect in eastern Amman.

Upon the force’s arrival, the suspect opened fire directly at the officers, resulting in the deaths of First Lieutenant Murad Masoud Al‑Mawajdeh, Sergeant Khaldoun Ahmed Al‑Raqeb, and Corporal Sobhi Mohammed Duikat. A fourth non‑commissioned officer was wounded and taken to the hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

Security forces responded with appropriate force, eventually subduing and arresting the suspect. Authorities seized three firearms, as well as a quantity of illegal pills, three packs of hashish, and quantities of crystal meth and marijuana, the statement said.

The Public Security Directorate expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the three officers, offering condolences and prayers for mercy, patience, and solace to their families, colleagues, and the wider community. The statement also wished a speedy recovery for the wounded officer.

The directorate reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public security and order, and to continuing its pursuit of those who attempt to undermine it through the distribution and trafficking of narcotics, “exerting the utmost effort and sacrificing dear and precious lives in this mission,” it said, ending with the traditional expression of mourning: “Indeed we belong to Allah and indeed to Him we will return.”
