'Israeli' media reported that the son of Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich was injured by shrapnel to the abdomen and back after a rocket launched by Hezbollah struck an 'Israeli' military position near the Lebanese border. The incident occurred on Friday, March 6, 2026, during an attack on a site in Western Galilee.

The explosion injured eight 'Israeli' soldiers from the Givati and Golani brigades, five of whom were in serious condition, while three sustained minor to moderate wounds. The minister’s son suffered internal injuries, including a liver tear, caused by shrapnel penetrating his abdomen and back.

The wounded were airlifted to the Western Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya. Authorities described the finance minister’s son as “stable,” although some reports noted that his internal injuries were more severe than initially reported and required intensive care.

Commenting on the incident, Minister Smotrich said released the following statement:

"Last Friday, militants fired a mortar at Golani soldiers on the Lebanese border, injuring eight soldiers. One of them is my beloved son, Binyamin Hebron. Shrapnel pierced his back and abdomen, and he was immediately taken to the hospital. There we discovered the great miracle that happened to us. By God’s grace, one of the shrapnel pieces tore his liver but stopped at the wall of a major blood vessel in his abdomen. Had it hit, the outcome would have been far worse. My family and I are deeply grateful to everyone who checked on him, called, prayed, or asked about his condition. We thank the entire Israeli public, the medical teams treating him, the army and Givati Brigade commanders who care for him, volunteers spreading joy in his heart, and our families who stand with us. By God’s will, Binyamin is strong and determined. With rehabilitation and dedicated treatment, he will recover and return to us and to the Israeli army. Sadly, many of his friends were seriously injured, and we pray for their swift recovery, as well as for all wounded Israeli soldiers. Over the past two and a half years, I have sat in the Cabinet and led the war courageously. I know every decision is a matter of life or death—not just for my children on the frontlines, but for all our dear soldiers, whom I consider my own children. My constant concern is the welfare of the nation."
