Russia is set to evacuate the second group of personnel and family members from the Bushehr nuclear power plant in southern Iran, the state nuclear corporation Rosatom announced.

Alexey Likhachev, Rosatom’s CEO, told the Strana Rosatom newspaper that the group will be transported to “a safe location” in Russia “soon”.

“Our priority in the current situation in Iran is to ensure the safety of Russian personnel working on the construction of Units 2 and 3 of the Bushehr nuclear power plant. This number amounts to more than 600 people,” Likhachev said.

Construction Work Suspended

Likhachev confirmed that the main construction on Units 2 and 3 has been temporarily suspended due to security concerns. He noted that a portion of personnel remains on site to service and maintain equipment or complete work that cannot be immediately halted.

Evacuation Details

The planned evacuation marks the second stage of workforce optimization at the facility. “We have completed preparations for the second stage of workforce optimization, namely, the evacuation of family members and some personnel to Russia. We will be transporting them to a safe location shortly,” Likhachev added.
