Amid escalating tensions in the region, four staff members of the Embassy of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to the Islamic Republic of Iran were safely evacuated through the Astara border crossing into the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jordanian authorities confirmed. The evacuation came as multiple countries move to protect their diplomatic personnel following recent military escalations.

The surge in regional instability followed a series of coordinated strikes by the United States and ‘Israel’ on Iranian targets Saturday. Tehran responded with retaliatory measures, escalating concerns of broader conflict in the Middle East.

Iranian state television confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. US President Donald Trump claimed responsibility for the strikes and warned of unprecedented force if Iran retaliates further. In a statement on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “They better not do that, however, because if they do, we will hit them with a force that has never been seen before.”

The attacks also resulted in the deaths of General Mohammad Pakpour, chief of the Revolutionary Guards, and senior security adviser Ali Shamkhani, both described by Iranian authorities as “martyrs.” In response, Iran declared a 40-day mourning period and seven public holidays.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and other top officials have been tasked with leading the country during the transitional period, according to state media. The situation continues to evolve, with regional leaders closely monitoring developments.
