- Abbas said the move, settler violence, and the withholding of four billion dollars violate international law and undermine the efforts of the President of the United States, Donald Trump.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday called on the United States and the international community to adopt a “firm stance” after the 'Israeli' security cabinet approved measures aimed at strengthening ‘Israel’ control over the occupied West Bank.
Speaking during a visit to Oslo, Abbas said he discussed the decision with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, as well as what he described as escalating settler violence and ‘Israel’ withholding four billion dollars in funds allocated to the Palestinian people.
“These grave violations require a firm response from the US administration and the international community because they obstruct the efforts of President Trump and constitute a violation of international law,” Abbas said during a joint press conference.
The remarks come amid heightened tensions in the West Bank, where recent 'Israeli' measures have drawn criticism from Palestinian officials, who warn they could further undermine prospects for a political resolution.
