  • President Alexander Lukashenko declined the invitation to the inaugural "Board of Peace" meeting in Washington due to its late arrival.
  • Despite Lukashenko’s personal absence, Belarus will participate in the US-led Gaza reconstruction and stabilization talks through its Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko declined to participate in the inaugural leaders' meeting of the Board of Peace, scheduled for February 19 in Washington, D.C, after getting a late invitation.

Presidential press secretary Natalya Eismont confirmed the receipt of the invitation from the United States but highlighted the timing issue.

“Unfortunately, we received it late, and the president's work schedule for this period had already been planned,” she stated.

Eismont also pointed to practical difficulties, including the closure of EU airspace to Belarusian aircraft, which would complicate travel arrangements.

Despite Lukashenko’s absence, Belarus will still be represented at the high-level gathering; the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs will attend in his place.

Board of Peace

The Board of Peace is a US-led international organization established under President Donald Trump, with an initial focus on overseeing ceasefires, stabilization, and reconstruction efforts in Gaza following the ‘Israeli’ assault.
