- UNICEF and the European Union sign seven-million-euro agreements to expand education and child protection in Jordan.
- More than thirty thousand vulnerable children, including Syrian refugees, are set to benefit through Makani centers.
UNICEF and the European Union announced Wednesday the signing of two agreements worth a combined seven million euros aimed at improving access to inclusive, high-quality education and strengthening child protection and mental health and psychosocial support services for the most vulnerable children and adolescents in Jordan.
Education recovery through Makani centers
The renewed partnership will also support learning recovery and skills development for children in Jordan, including Syrian refugees, through integrated services delivered at Makani centers.
More than thirty thousand children are expected to benefit from safe learning environments and essential services that help them stay in education, re-engage in learning, and build skills for their future.
Makani centers operate in refugee camps and the most marginalized communities in remote areas, providing integrated educational support, child protection services, skills development, and mental health and psychosocial support to ensure comprehensive care for children and adolescents.
Long-term commitment
European Union Ambassador to Jordan Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas said the agreements reaffirm the bloc’s commitment to supporting the most vulnerable children across the country.
UNICEF Representative in Jordan Marc Rubin said the expanded partnership would enable broader outreach in hard-to-reach areas.
He added that the cooperation strengthens comprehensive and preventive pathways in line with the Jordanian government’s commitment to children’s rights.
Through the agreements, the European Union and UNICEF reaffirm their shared commitment to achieving sustainable, long-term impact for those most in need, while advancing the goal of ensuring quality education and protection for every child in Jordan.
